Lumbini (South-Western Nepal) sprang up in places pivotal to the life of Gautam Buddha and is listed in the World Heritage Site status by UNESCO. It has a number of temples, including the Maya Devi Temple and several others monasteries.
Kathmandu (capital of Nepal) and its periphery have hundreds of meditation caves, monasteries and stupas. Here one can find meditation caves of Guru Padmaswambhava, Milarepa, Naropa and Tilopa. The Maratika cave of Halesi and NamoBuddha are two most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites outside Kathmandu.
